www.dristikalyaneyehospital.com

Dhamrai Dristi Kalyan Eye Hospital

যেমন, World Health Organization এবং International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness

Dhamrai Dristi Kalyan Eye Hospital

Canthoplasty Surgery: Benefits, Procedure, and Aftercare

The shape of the eyes plays a significant role in facial aesthetics and function. Canthoplasty surgery is a specialised eyelid procedure that reshapes and supports the corners of the eyes, known as the canthi.

Canthoplasty surgery is often performed for both cosmetic and functional reasons, helping patients achieve improved eyelid position, eye shape, and better vision. This article examines the various types of canthoplasty, the surgical process, benefits, risks, recovery, and postoperative care to help patients make informed decisions.

What Is Canthoplasty Surgery?

Canthoplasty surgery is a reconstructive or cosmetic eyelid procedure that reshapes the lateral or medial canthus (outer or inner corners of the eye). It is commonly performed to correct eyelid laxity, improve symmetry, or create a more defined eye contour.

Unlike simple eyelid tightening procedures, canthoplasty involves reconstructing the canthal tendon, providing longer-lasting results.

Types of Canthoplasty Surgery

Lateral Canthoplasty

Lateral canthoplasty targets the outer corner of the eye. It is often performed for cosmetic enhancement, to elongate the eyes, or to correct drooping outer eyelids that affect appearance or vision.

Medial Canthoplasty

Medial canthoplasty addresses the inner corner of the eye near the nose. It is usually performed to correct congenital deformities such as epicanthal folds, improve tear drainage, or refine the eye’s appearance.

How Is the Canthoplasty Procedure Performed?

Step-by-Step Overview of the Surgery

The procedure begins with careful marking of the incision site. A small cut is made near the canthus, followed by tightening or repositioning of the tendon.

The incision is closed with fine sutures, leaving minimal scarring. The surgery typically takes one to two hours, depending on complexity.

Anaesthesia Options for Canthoplasty

Canthoplasty surgery can be performed under local anaesthesia with sedation or general anaesthesia, depending on patient preference and the surgeon’s recommendation. Local anaesthesia allows quicker canthoplasty recovery, while general anaesthesia may be chosen for complex cases.

Benefits of Canthoplasty Surgery

Enhanced Eye Shape

The surgery refines and reshapes the eyes, making them appear more defined and aesthetically balanced. Many patients seek canthoplasty for cosmetic reasons, particularly to elongate or lift the eye corners.

Youthful Appearance

By correcting drooping eyelids, canthoplasty provides a more youthful and rejuvenated look, reducing the appearance of tired or sagging eyes associated with ageing.

Improved Symmetry

Eye symmetry is important for overall facial balance. Canthoplasty helps correct uneven eyelids, improving harmony between the two eyes.

Improved Vision

In cases where drooping eyelids obstruct vision, canthoplasty improves the line of sight by lifting and supporting the eyelids.

Eyelid Support

By reconstructing the canthal tendon, the surgery strengthens eyelid support, preventing further sagging or functional issues such as eyelid malposition.

Dry Eye Relief

For patients experiencing excessive eye exposure due to lax eyelids, canthoplasty helps close the eyelids more effectively, reducing dryness and irritation.

Risks of Canthoplasty Surgery

Scars

Like all surgeries, canthoplasty may leave small scars, though these are usually well hidden in the natural creases of the eyelid.

Bleeding

Minor bleeding during or after surgery is possible but generally resolves with proper care.

Swelling and Bruising

Temporary swelling and bruising are common after canthoplasty surgery, usually improving within one to two weeks.

Pain

Mild discomfort or pain is expected but can be managed with prescribed medications and cold compresses.

Dry Eyes

Some patients may experience temporary dryness after surgery, which can be relieved with lubricating eye drops.

Difficulty Closing Your Eyes

In rare cases, patients may have difficulty fully closing their eyes. This usually resolves as healing progresses.

Infection

As with any surgical procedure, infection is a potential risk. Proper aftercare and prescribed antibiotics minimise this possibility.

Recovery and Aftercare for Canthoplasty

What to Expect During Recovery

Initial canthoplasty recovery takes about one to two weeks. Patients may experience swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort. Stitches are usually removed within a week, and most individuals resume normal activities after two weeks.

Aftercare Instructions and Tips

Patients are advised to keep the surgical area clean, apply cold compresses, and avoid rubbing the eyes. Sleeping with the head elevated, avoiding strenuous activities, and attending follow-up visits are crucial for safe canthoplasty recovery.

When to See a Doctor for Canthoplasty Surgery

While complications are rare, patients should seek medical advice if they experience persistent pain, excessive swelling, fever, vision changes, or difficulty closing the eyes after surgery. Early consultation ensures timely management.

What Is the Cost of LASIK Eye Surgery in India? A Comprehensive Guide from ASG Eye Hospital

Thinking about getting rid of your glasses for good? LASIK is a popular and effective solution, but a common question that comes up is: “How much does LASIK eye surgery cost?”

The laser eye surgery cost in India is surprisingly affordable compared to many Western countries, but it’s not a single price. The final amount depends on several factors. At ASG Eye Hospital, we believe in complete transparency, so we’ve put together this guide to help you understand what you’re paying for

Breaking Down the LASIK Eye Surgery Price

The cost of lasik laser eye surgery is a composite fee that includes more than just the procedure itself. Here are the main factors that influence the final price:

  • Type of Procedure: This is the biggest variable. The price for standard LASIK is typically the most budget-friendly. More advanced, bladeless procedures like Femto-LASIK or SMILE use cutting-edge laser technology for higher precision and a faster recovery, which is reflected in their higher laser eye surgery price.

  • Technology and Equipment: Clinics that use the latest and most advanced laser platforms, like Contoura Vision or those with wavefront-guided technology, will have a higher laser eye surgery cost. These technologies offer superior outcomes by correcting minute imperfections in your cornea, providing sharper, clearer vision.

  • Surgeon’s Expertise and Reputation: The experience and skill of your surgeon play a significant role. A highly-trained ophthalmologist with a long track record of successful procedures may charge more for their expertise. At ASG Eye Hospital, our surgeons are among the most respected in the field, ensuring you’re in the safest hands.

  • Inclusions in the Package: Always confirm what the quoted LASIK eye surgery cost includes. A comprehensive package should cover pre-operative diagnostic tests, the surgery itself, and all post-operative check-ups. Our packages at ASG Eye Hospital are all-inclusive, so you won’t encounter any hidden charges.

  • Clinic Location: The geographic location of the clinic also affects the price. Procedures in major metropolitan areas tend to be more expensive due to higher operational costs.

Is the Laser Eye Surgery Cost a Worthwhile Investment?

While the initial cost of laser eye surgery might seem significant, it’s a long-term investment in your vision and an enhanced lifestyle. When you factor in the recurring expenses of glasses (frames, lenses, and replacements) and contact lenses (lenses, solutions, and annual check-ups), the one-time LASIK eye surgery price often becomes a more economical choice over time.

Beyond the financial savings, the benefits are priceless:

  • Freedom and Convenience: Wake up with clear vision and enjoy an active lifestyle without the hassle of corrective eyewear.

  • Enhanced Confidence: Clear vision can boost your self-esteem and make you feel more comfortable in social and professional settings.

At ASG Eye Hospital, we are committed to providing world-class eye care that is both advanced and accessible. We offer a transparent pricing structure and a range of financing options to make your journey to glasses-free vision a reality.

Ready to take the first step towards a clearer, more vibrant life? Contact ASG Eye Hospital today to schedule a consultation and receive a personalized quote for your laser eye surgery cost in India.
